Currently meeting at Barnes & Noble in Monroeville the first Thursday of every month. Meeting time is from 7:00 to 9:00 PM

Evergreen is one of the longest running Pagan/Metaphysical and open/public discussion groups (NOT a coven or grove) in the Pittsburgh Area. It has always been open to all pagan and pagan-friendly folks to attend.

Evergreen was started by Moonshadow in collaboration with Three Rivers CUUPS/Isis in January of 1999 (if not actually earlier then that as the archives I have access to only go back to Jan 1999) with it’s first meetings taking place at the UU Church in Shadyside. In May of 1999 Moonshadow began Evergreen East at Borders in Monroeville, while still maintaining Evergreen at the UU church. For a short period of time there were two monthly Evergreen meetings.

In August of 1999 The Evergreen Shadyside UU Church meetings became The CUPPS Discussion Group ( Community Uniting Pgh Pagans – which subsequently and unfortunately disbanded in Dec. 1999) and the Evergreen meetings continued at Borders in Monroeville. It was also at that time (Aug or perhaps Sept of 1999) that Moonshadow passed the torch (chair) to ReNauMoon.

Somewhere in the Summer of 2001, Shari became the chair of Evergreen and for several years it switched back and forth between Shari and Eloria. Sometime in early to mid 2005 ReNauMoon became the chair again and is the current chair.

The meetings are always free unless you want to get yourself something to eat and/or drink in the cafe. The turn out for attendees can range anywhere from 4 (during VERY bad weather in the winter) to somewhere between 25-30, with the average ranging between 10-15. The topics are varied and we try not to revisit a topic for about a 2 year period to keep things interesting and informative. Over the years we have had key speakers who have given demonstrations and passed out information packets to the group. We also now have an annual energy exchange that takes the place of a topic, although if someone asks questions about Reiki, crystal healing or any other form of energy healing, folks are more then happy to answer as best they can. Many folks go over to TGIFridays after the meeting for further socializing and food.

This is the list of topics for 2012 for anyone reading this article that might be interested in attending any or all of the meetings:

Jan 5th –
Magickal Jewelry Making – do you make jewelry for magickal or healing purposes? Then come join us and show us some of your creations and share with us how and why you created it.

Feb 2nd –
Candle Magick – what better topic for Imbolc/Candlemas?!?!?! Do you work with candles in a magickal way? Is so, how do you work with them, what techniques do you employ, what reason(s)?

Mar 1st –
Reptile Magick – Lassair will start the Ouroborus rolling for this discussion about working with snakes and reptiles as Familiars and totems and Bringing back the Snakes (to Ireland).

Apr 5th –
Weather Witching – what a fun topic. Do you work with the weather in a magickal way? What reasons/intent do you use when working with the weather?

May 3rd –
Faery Magick – Nikki will lead this discussion on working with the Fae. If you yourself work with the Fae, come on out and share your experiences with us.

SATURDAY June 16 –
Annual Energy Exchange –

We are changing things a bit this year for the ANNUAL Energy Exchange. We have decided to have the energy exchange outdoors at Boyce Park with a Picnic open to folks interested in coming for and/or sharing healing energies.

As Evergreen is a free to attend group and we do not have a piggy bank, if you do decide you want to attend it would be expected that you would supply either your own food or food to share. Also, in an effort to be more eco-friendly, it is also requested that you bring along your own washable/recyclable dishes and utensils.

There will be grilling equipment available for anyone wanting to grill something. Since there are both Meat eaters and Vegan and Vegetarians that would possibly attend, we will make certain that we have a meat-free grilling set up available also.
The pavilion has already been reserved; this will be taking place at “PRIMROSE”. There is no electric at this pavilion. Out of respect for all who might attend and the intent of the energy exchange, there is NO ALCOHOL permitted at this event and per park rules no glass.

July 5th –
Crystals – Healing and working with crystals (meditation, protection, etc.) – Do you work with crystals? If so, how do you work with them, for healing (yourself and/or others)? DO you use them for Meditation? What about for dream work?

Aug. 2nd –
Techno Paganism – Nikki will lead this discussion on working with technology in your practices as a Pagan/Witch/Mage, etc.

Sept. 6th –
Color Magick – what is color magick and how can you work with it? Is it strictly about magick or do you use it for healing and meditation as well? If we are lucky, Bill will bring along his colored glasses.

Oct. 4th –
Affirmations – What kind of affirmations do you use in your spiritual practice and Daily life? How do they help you?

Nov. 1st –
Exorcism and Unwanted Spirits – What a topic for just after Halloween! Have you yourself ever experienced an unwanted spirit? Have you known someone who needed to have a spirit exorcised? Come on out and share your experience(s) with us and tell us your story.

Dec. 4th –
Since it is The Year of the Dragon (Chinese zodiac) and the return of Quetzacoatl (The Mayan/Aztec Feathered Serpent God) …. What better month to discuss them both than the month that the Mayan calendar ends?!?!
